This course has the following goals and objective adapted from National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Standards as well as Oregon State Standards for Mathematics
- Compute fluently and make reasonable estimates
- Understand meanings of operations and how they relate to one another
- Understand numbers, ways of representing numbers, relationships among numbers, and number systems
- Use ratios, proportions, and percents to solve problems.
- Construct and apply mathematical rules and algorithms to solve problems.
- Demonstrate the relationships among whole number, decimal, fraction, percent, exponent, and integer operations (including relationships involving ratio and proportion).
- Apply the relationships among whole number, decimal, fraction, percent, exponent, and integer operations to solve problems (including relationships involving ratio and proportion).
- Determine and use appropriate standard and nonstandard units and tools of measurement to measure to the degree of precision and accuracy desired in particular situations.
- Describe, estimate, and use measures of length, time, and money.
- Understand measurable attributes of objects and the units, systems, and processes of measurement
- Apply appropriate techniques, tools, and formulas to determine measurements
- Recognize and use mathematical expressions and algebraic operations to solve problems.
- Use a variety of methods and tools to solve equations.
- Represent relationships among variables using words, tables, graphs, patterns, generalizations, and equations.
- Analyze relationships to explain how a change in one quantity results in a change in another.
- Solve problems using geometric relationships and spatial reasoning.
- Use geometric diagrams and models to solve problems.
- Understand and formulate problems, selecting pertinent information to solve them.
